Yangtze Cruise Tips from Jack

The "best" depends on what you are more concerned about, weather or price. To most visitors, the best best time for natural scenery should be the Spring and Autumn, namely, April to June and September to November when the weather is cool and comfortable, neither cold nor hot. For the biggest discount, winter period, usually December to the next January or early February are top reccommended. Also, July to August for summer vacation also offer some discounts for families with student children.

There are different cruise lines to cater different customer demands. Cruise between Chongqing and Yichang is the most classic and golden route to appreciate the famous Three Gorges view. Besides, if interested in discovering more nature, culture, history and economy in cities along the Yangtze, cruising between Shanghai and Chongqing, Shanghai and Wuhan, Chongqing and Wuhan, etc. are recommended for special savory. (note: cruise routes are changed every year.)

Upstream means sailing from lower part of river to the up to the higher part of the river. It usually takes one more day and spares more time onboard for leisure activities, lectures, etc. Downstream mean sailing from higher part of the river to the lower part of the river. There is enough time to enjoy the shore excursions because all scenic sites are arranged in the daytime. Besides, upstream cruise prices may be a little higher than that of the downstream cruise for some companies.

You cruise vacation duration usually is about 4 to 5 days for the Chongqing Yichang sailing route, which is decided by the ship and itinerary you have chosen and booked. For the longer Chongqing Shanghai cruise route, it usually needs 11 to 15 days for different ships.

Yangtze River Cruise - including Century Oasis / Century Victory / Century Glory (same sister ships), Victoria Sabrina, Yangtze Gold 8, Yangtze 3 cruise and Yangtze Explorer. Book now with great discount!

    Dear Mr Jack Li

This is my feedback on the Yangtze cruise Century Oasis.

We travelled in a group of 6 booked on the Century Oasis for the Yangtze river cruise from Chongqing to Yichang. We thank Mr Jack Li who provided excellent service and support in booking and making payments.

We enjoyed the cruise and found the facilities, amenities and rooms very much to expectations. The services were well orchestrated and coordinated by the Captain and his crew. Attention to detail, comfort, convenience and safety of the passengers were paramount and emphasized throughout our 4 day stay. Compliments to the Chef for the wide variety of food options. Each meal offers some dishes which are new and provides variety and taste.

The off-shore excursions are a must. They are thoroughly well planned and executed in small groups of 12-15 persons. The 3 Kingdom performance show is spectacular. We are very impressed. The cruise offered excellent central seating for the performance. The Ghost city and upstream excursions were very enjoyable. We heard there was a lot of walking but it was at an easy pace and not troubling at all (my group are in their sixties & seventies)

We had one hiccup which was beyond the control of the cruise operator. In early April the tide at the Chongqing Chao Tien Men terminal was too low, and the ship could not embank there. We were given 2 days advance notice to go to a different meeting venue in the city and were driven by coach to the next embarkation point. We felt that this hiccup was well managed and together with other travellers felt we were well taken care of.

We highly recommend this cruise and recommend booking through the yangtze-river-cruise.com website is an excellent choice.

    Thank you, Jack.

    Sincerely

    Mr Kwong

    Hi Jack,

I just wanted to say that the itinerary was outstanding—I was really impressed with how well everything was organized.

That said, I wanted to share a few observations. One concern was the number of stairs at several destinations during the day tours. My friend, who has a knee injury, found it quite challenging at times. It might be helpful to note this in the tour descriptions for future guests.

Also, we noticed that the rooms didn’t include hair dryers or conditioner, which are usually standard in similar accommodations.

There was a slight language barrier with some of the staff, which occasionally made communication a bit difficult. Additionally, the Karaoke Night didn’t seem set up for Western guests to participate easily, and one of the evening plays was entirely in the local language without any translation—making it hard to follow.

Overall, I truly enjoyed the experience and appreciated the cultural immersion. I just feel that a few small adjustments could make the experience more comfortable and accessible for Western visitors.

Thanks again for all your efforts!

    Best regards,

    Hello Jack,

The cruise went really well and we had a very good time during the 4 days. Unfortunately the day with the visit of the 3 gorges it was raining, but it is something we cannot plan in advance. In any case we were satisfied with the cruise, food was good, the room comfortable and the cruise's member really nice. Thank you helping us in the organization and booking, we had great time.

    regards,

    Jack,

We have made it back to America.

I wanted to THANK YOU for one of the most awesome trips that I have taken. I speak for the Browns also. Everything was first class and exceeded all of our expectations.

From the moment we stepped off the plane in Shanghai, we were immediately met by Seven (our guide in Shanghai). She was great. Very knowledgeable and personable. The accommodations were first class at the Hyatt. We had an amazing tour of Shanghai with the Museum. Some of the artifacts were priceless. We took lots of pictures. Next we visited the Yu Garden. Very peaceful and tranquil. We visited the financial district and saw amazing views of the City. We were pretty tired after this so we only took a short tour along the Bund.

Next we took the bullet train to Yichang. Again we were met at the station by our guide Leo who directed us to the Yangtze 2. When we were directed to the Presidential Suite, we were spell bound. It was overwhelming. The room was very spacious. We had our own table for meals and the food was great. It was much more than we could eat. Leo was an exceptional guide. He was very patient and accommodating to us. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the excursions. The welcoming party by the Captain the crew as over the top. It was truly first class. The Three Gorges Dam is one of the modern wonders of the world. We took the “elevator” ride with the cruise ship up the dam. It is one of the engineering feats of the world. We then visited the White Emperor City and the Great Rift Valley. That was breathtaking.

Because the river was low, we had to take a train from Wuling to Chongqing. Again we were met at the train station by David. He was very accommodating and showed us the sites of his city. Our guide, Julie, showed us the Hongya Cave. What a site!!! The rock formations and sheer beauty were very impressive.

Next was the train to Chengdu to see the pandas. It was the highlight for my wife. Our guide, Helen, was very passionate about the pandas. She was great. We also visited Jinli Old Street and visited with the vendors and toured all of the sites.

Next was the train to Xi’an to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers. That was a marvel. We were all overwhelmed. Our guide was Linda. She was great. We visited Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. We tried on the Hanfu. We had our picture taken with about a dozen people. They all wanted their picture taken with us. I was dressed as a prime minister, my wife was a fair maiden as was Marianne. Ron was dressed as one of the ministers. It was so much fun. We had a blast.

Next was the train to Beijing. Our guide, Jaime, was super. We first visited Tiananmen Square. It was breathtaking. The walk through the Forbidden City was stunning. The beauty and immensity of it were overwhelming. The highlight for me was to visit the Great Wall. It was stunning. I was overwhelmed at the immense structure. It truly is one of the seven wonders of the world.

I cannot thank you enough for putting this trip together. The people were so nice to us that we did not feel like foreigners. Lots of people wanted our picture. We felt like celebrities. You truly have a beautiful country steeped in history.

All of the guides and drivers were very well spoken. We had no trouble with understanding them. The hotels were all first class. The Yangtze 2 was a great ship. All of meals were great. There was so much food we had trouble eating half of it. It was too much. I would not change a single thing on the entire trip.

We had many American people question why we were going to China. They cautioned us to be “careful”. I felt more safe in China than in most parts of America. I have recommended this trip to several people. We in America need to learn about the Chinese people and need to learn from them. You have many great things about your country. It is too bad that more people do not know the wonders of China.

Again THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE. One that we will never forget.

    Hi Jack,

We had a wonderful time on our cruise! We absolutely loved our room on the uppermost deck towards the front of the ship.

My daughter and I both wrote reviews while we were still on board. They asked us to handwrite our reviews, so I’ve taken pictures of two of them and attached them to this email.

I also plan to post our reviews on TripAdvisor and any social media that mentions Century Voyage.

Would you like me to send you screenshots of my reviews once they’re complete? We’re currently traveling from Zhangjiajie to Xi’an, but I should have some time after this weekend to finalize them.

Thank you again for this unforgettable trip!

    Best regards,

    Mary
