We settled on Yangtze Gold 7 for the 4 night trip down the river. To escape the pushy Chinese in the main eating area it's best to upgrade to the more relaxed and civilized upstairs restaurant ($60 total each for the 4 days) where we ended up with our own dedicated table for the 4 days beside large windows which was lovely to eat and look out at the view going by 3 times a day.

One thing to remember with these cruises is that if you're arriving in Chongqing in the morning as many do, it's a good idea to arrange a half day tour as we did to fill in the day otherwise you're sitting around the boat all day with luggage waiting for the 9pm departure.

We loved our 4 night cruise up the Yangtze River on the Yangtze Gold 7 ship. We weren't sure what to expect but were very pleased we did it. The cruise ship was fantastic, the rooms were equivalent to a 4/5 star hotel. We loved having a private balcony to enjoy the scenery, which is just beautiful. The food on the ship was great, mostly Chinese but some western options. I noticed previous comments on the price of alcohol being ridiculous, which isn't true, it's about the same as we would pay in Aust. You can buy alcohol (beer and wine) for much cheaper at most of the shore excursions and drink it in your room or upstairs on the Sun Deck. Which is pretty good as not all cruise ships allow that. We noticed most of the wine in China is corked (not screw top) we found a cork screw for 10 rmb at a market stall, and we soon became very popular amongst our group for opening wine bottles.

The shore excursions are quite good, but they were very crowded with tourists when we went, we only did one of the optional extra, and decided to relax on board for the other optional extras. It's true that while the ship is moored another cruise ship can come along and moor right beside you, so don't count on relaxing on your balcony enjoying the view whilst the shore excursions are on, but you can still go up to the Sun Deck and enjoy the view from there. The staff were very courteous and helpful, making our room up twice a day (you can say no if you don't want that). The bar fridge in the room is smaller than normal. The 3 Gorges Dam was a highlight as was going through the ship Locks. We enjoyed the 3 Gorges Tribe Tour where the scenery, with the green mountains covered by mist against the blue water, is like a beautiful landscape painting. Overall we had a great time and would highly recommend doing a cruise up the Yangtze.

YAn amazing cruise from the 3 gorges dam, the wolds largest hyroelectic project on the beautiful Yangtze Gold cruise.

This trip was absolutely amazing, scenery was unbeliveable through the gorges, something different every day on this 4 days cruise.
