Chongqing Transportation System Guide

Chongqing's only real tourist area is down by the dock where touts sell maps and offer guided tours or cruise tickets. Although they can be aggressive, they won't follow you for long. The porters or "bang bangs" carry things from the docks to the ships and are notorious for aggressive behavior. So, make sure to set a clear price before they pick up your bags. RMB 5 per piece of luggage is more than enough.

Airport

Located 13 miles north of the city is the Chongqing's Jiangbei Airport. There are shuttle buses to and from the city and it is about 45 minutes from the airport to Shangqing Temple.
Taking a taxi from the airport to Chongqing costs around RMB100, and takes about 30 minutes.

Boat

Cruises to the Yangtze Three Gorges are boarded at the Chaotianmen Dock in Yuzhong District; tickets require advanced booking.

Bus

Buses to Dazu take around 3 hours and depart daily from 6 am to 6 pm. Bus service between Chengdu and Chongqing takes about 4 hours and costs a bit over RMB100.

Taxi

Taxis start at RMB5 at flag-fall and rides around the city center rarely cost over RMB12. Many of Chongqing's outlying districts are spread over hilltops so the meter can add up fast; expect to pay a minimum of RMB30 when visiting these areas.

Train

Chongqing has good train connections though routes tend to be circuitous because of the mountainous terrain. There are connections to most major cities and the train station is located across from the bus station.
